Directions

To get to Spanish Wells, you want to fly into the North Eleuthera airport (ELH). There are direct flights to ELH from Nassau (NAS) via Bahamas Air and Pineapple Air, Miami (MIA) via American, Atlanta (ATL) via Delta, and Fort Lauderdale (FLL) via Silver Airways. American is just staring flights to/from Charlotte.

We recommend avoiding the Silver Airways flight from FLL.  They have a lot of delays and cancellations.

Note that you can also fly into Governor's Harbor airport (GHB).  They have regular flights from Nassau and Fort Laudedale.  But the drawback to flying into GHB is that it is a 60 minute taxi ride to the Spanish Wells water taxi (compared to 15 minutes from ELH).

It takes about 30 minutes to get from the North Eleuthera airport to the house. Here's how you do it:

1.) Take a 10-15 minute taxi from the airport to the Spanish Wells water taxi.

2.) The water taxi is a 5 minute boat ride and usually runs every 15 minutes.

3.) Rent a golf cart.  Harbourside Rentals is right where the water taxi drops you off.

4.) It's a two minute golf cart ride from Harbourside Rentals to the house, about 1/4 mile. Or you can walk from the water taxi drop off to the house instead of renting a golf cart.  It's a 10 minute walk. Or, email or call our house manager Andre and he can probably give you a ride to the house.

The house is on the northside beach at 11th Street. From the water taxi, go west on the island's main street (Leo Pinder St) and turn right on 11th. It's the lime green house at the end of 11th on the left.

You can contact Pinder's Taxi if you would like to arrange for transportation from the airport to the water taxi ahead of time. Calvin Pinder's cell number is 242-359-7135. The people who run Pinder Taxi also run the water taxi so if you are arriving late in the evening, check with Pinder Taxi about the exact water taxi hours.  The taxi and water taxi schedules revolve around the ELH flight schedules, so you should have no problem getting a taxi and water taxi to/from the airport regardless of departure and arrival time.  Pinder Taxi charges $15 per person to get from the airport to Spanish Wells via their van and water taxi boat.

If you are just visiting Spanish Wells, there is really no reason to have a car on the island. A golf cart or bicycle is a much better option.

Note that when leaving Spanish Wells for the airport, you should board the water taxi for Eleuthera at least two hours before your flight's departure.  And here's an ELH airport tip: check in as soon as you get to the airport and then wait at the cafe and liquor store across the street from the airport.  The airport waiting room is really tiny.  Airport personnel will come over to the cafe and let you know when it's time to board.

If you are leaving on an early flight (there's a 7:20 AM flight to Nassau most days), there is a 6:00 AM water taxi that will get you to Eleuthera in time to catch the flight.  Call Pinder taxi to confirm that it's running and they'll have a taxi waiting for you to take you to the airport.

You can also take the ferry from Nassau to Spanish Wells.  This is usually a pretty big hassle.  We don't recommend it.  It's much longer than flying and the ferry schedules are not that convenient.
